![]() Here's the screenshots I made to demonstrate the difference: So many people neglect how much depth you can add just by painting your structures. Ark has many strange quirks of its terrain that with a little creativity and a lot of annoying snap points, can actually become signature features of your Arkitecture.ĭon't forget the paint, either! One of my most impressive builds that I'm still proud of was absolutely made by painting it. Although, I admit I actually really enjoy renovating my base over time as my needs and uses of it change.Īnd sometimes when building, just go with the flow. I think a lot of newer builders underestimate just how large a fully functioning endgame base will be if you want any design elements at all to it. It's important to take that into consideration, otherwise you might end up with an awesome base, but nowhere to put your endgame structures. ![]() My main base build that I did ages ago was entirely metal, but that was before Tek tier and I plan to recreate the design in Tek someday.Īlso consider forward planning: if you've never gotten to Tek tier before and plan to, some of the Tek items, especially the replicator and the cloning chamber, are huge and require a lot of space. My current build up by carno point is mostly stone with some wood and glass. ![]() I usually try to incorporate the environment into my designs for example the last time I built on Cragg's Island on The Island, my base design was very open and mainly wood and thatch, had a dock, etc. If I'm not inspired by where my base is, my builds always come out dull and lifeless, no character to them at all. When it comes to inspiration for a base build, I find my base location is actually the most important part of it all. Trying to duplicate specific buildings, layouts or architecture styles can be a highly frustrating but rewarding challenge. Honestly some of the best references are RL ones. I also recommend GG Fizz his designs are less practical, but he teaches a lot of great building techniques and it's easy to draw inspiration from them. A few people I was playing with that the time "accidently" would drop hostile dinos in and these stopped that.Agree with Aaron Longstaff, he has good builds. I hate Icthyornis and they keep the skies clear. Species X are there to clean up annoyances. Make sure you put Stone Foundations down wherever you wanna block respawns (such as you can see I did under the gates) to ensure a rock doesn't spawn and create a natural ramp over. Unfortunately Metal Spikes are only considered "Stone" so the biggest danger is Alpha Raptors who will chew through them and can break through. You have to put the spikes on the inside or bigger dinos will use them to ramp up and over. After that you can plug the gap with Spikes. Set high enough they will block any big dino from getting through (3+). ![]() Pillars/Spikes idea I 100% took from Nooblets. This creates a very organic design and preserves the home bonus (as you always have walls nearby). This is pretty much how I build all my bases now, I start with one centralized room then expand outward from there. Makes things very organized because you can have a cooking wing, production wing, etc with centralized storage. So you can see the middle of the main building is a big hexagon then I have "wings" that build straight off into rectangles/squares off of the sides of it. Triangles from S+ lets you build Hexagons that you can then build off of. This is using S+ on The Island as PvE build.
